Prince Fielder and Miguel Cabrera of the first-place Detroit Tigers are on pace to combine for 76 home runs and 307 RBIs.

That’ll get you on the cover of Sports Illustrated, for sure. But “Bash Bros” is already synonymous with a certain late-80s Oakland A’s duo, no?

Another three regional covers for Sports Illustrated this week: Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander, New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez, and Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice.

I’m sure these multi-covers make business sense on the newsstand, but the cache of being a cover athlete is certainly diluted for longtime fans and collectors, like me.

This is the funniest baseball mound charge I’ve ever seen, from current Detroit Tigers analyst Rod Allen’s stint in Japan.

The drilling was a result of Allen flattening the opponent’s catcher earlier in the game, but, as Awful Announcing notes, Allen believes the fallen backstop was just being Hollywood as hell.
