Andy Staples of SI.com delivers a comprehensive ranking of the top 20 most desirable college football head coaching jobs, with Texas leading the way.
The motivation for the piece is the Ohio State gig, which has been handed, in the interim basis, to Luke Fickell. Staples ranks the job No. 2 nationally, writing that coaches shouldn’t fear the heavy sanctions expected to be levied by the NCAA. He points to the national championships won by Miami and Alabama after they faced significant penalties, believing that OSU has an even better chance of bouncing back because of its in-state recruiting advantage in the Big Ten.
The 2012 Ohio State coaching position will certainly be one of the sport’s major story lines this coming season.
Also of note: The Note Dame job is ranked only No. 13, and the Penn State post is No. 8, though it’s been unavailable since Lyndon Johnson was in office.
