It was quite an emotional Monday night in San Francisco, where the Giants and rival Dodgers both addressed the crowd pregame to denounce violence that left 42-year-old San Fran supporter Bryan Stow severely beaten by men wearing Los Angeles gear after the Dodgers’ March 31 season opener.
Stow remains in critical condition and in a medically induced coma.
I’ve lamented the deterioration of fan behavior — and the tolerance of it by teams and fellow spectators — for years. The ability to anonymously text stadium security is a start, and the next step is to push strict policies as much as they push beer sales to those who ruin the fan experience. Sometimes, a game ticket is like a lottery ticket — the luck of the draw could result in three hours ruined by a few drunken slobs.
